Roles and Responsibilities:
- Edits and proofreads scientific content of documents translated into Spanish.
- Edits and proofreads other documents translated into Spanish for scientific accuracy.
- Identifies deficiencies and suggests corrective actions.
- Identifies errors in chemical names of drug substances and formulas and suggests corrective actions.
- Assists in planning the scientific review work flow process.
- Compiles new entries to include in the English-Spanish scientific glossary to be reviewed and approved by senior staff and the STEP; assists with annual STEP meeting.
- Researches scientific literature in Spanish and English to resolve issues with unclear text.
- Creates of individual glossaries, and preparation of supporting material for the STEP meeting to be reviewed and approved by senior staff.
- Communicates with scientific staff as needed to ensure accuracy, quality and clarity of the translated text.
- Supports the Spanish Errata system, and submits English and Spanish errata.
- Supports the Spanish Style Guide and Spanish Glossary.
- Acts as back-up on Style Guide meetings.
- Performs other duties related to scientific edition as required/assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.
- Knowledge of chemical composition, properties of drug substances, and chemical processes and transformations that they undergo.
- Capability to undertake in depth investigations, collecting complex data, using a variety of different approaches, in order to reach conclusions about specific scientific English-Spanish translated documents within the field of pharmaceuticals.
- Demonstrated computer skills in a PC environment, along with proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office and electronic database searches
- Ability to withstand tight deadlines in a multi-tasking working environment.
- Must be able to share technical information with non-technical or non-scientific staff.
- Establish effective working relationships in a team setting.
- Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Microbiology required.
- At least eight years of experience in the field of pharmaceuticals, preferable in an industrial setting or a regulatory authority, working with analytical methods and standards or an equal combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
